Students taking admission in various courses of the University of Pune (UoP) have reason to rejoice
Students taking admission in various courses of the University of Pune (UoP) have reason to rejoice. In a meeting on Saturday the management council decided to continue with the existing fee structure as of now for the coming year.
The UoP appointed a fee structure committee under the chairmanship of V V Gaikwad earlier this year and asked it to submit a full report on the existing fee structure and the changes required in it.
According to a senior official, the committee had suggested that the fees across all courses should be increased by 25 per cent to 30 per cent for the development of the students.
But the management council is yet to take a stand on the report as the admissions have already taken place.
Prof Balasaheb Nathaji Wafare, from the Mathematics department and one of the management council members said, "We have put the fee issue on hold till next year for various reasons. One, the admissions have already happened and so we cannot change the fees now and secondly a complete modification has to take place which requires discussions and planning."
He said that members therefore decided to go ahead with the existing fees structure and go back to the respective committee after planning everything.
An official from board of college and university development (BCUD) said that decision is pending for now and the committee members will meet again in a month's time to further decide on the issue.u00a0u00a0
