Delhi-based merchandiser Happily Unmarried is organising a music festival on the banks of Naukuchiatal Lake, located 4,500 feet above sea level, in Nainital district

Long before the guys who organise the Ladakh Confluence took music 11,500 feet above sea level, the music-loving merchandisers from Happily Unlimited made homegrown Indie music echo in the mountains.

Music in the Hills, in its sixth edition this year, is a two-day music fest set on the banks of the picturesque Naukuchiatal Lake in Uttarakhand. At this fest, all that matters is the music and the ambience.

Unlike the Confluence, Music in the Hills is an event that takes place on a much smaller scale. A maximum of 250 people, including the invited musicians, descend upon the Lake Resort, which is the main venue.

This year, Shillong-based band Soul Mate, North East Express, Sajid and The Lost Boys and Sufi singer Ahmed Khan Warsi and party will perform at the festival.

"Music in the Hills has always been a non-commercial venture for us. The idea is just to get a collective of people who like music and who want to hear it in an exotic location.

We don't want it to be a Glastonbury Festival or even the Confluence because we want the junta to interact with each other," says Rahul Anand, director of Happily Unmarried.

The days will be spent lazing and soaking in the surroundings, while evenings promise loads of action.

Each night will see performances by two different bands. But it's the action that takes place after the scheduled performances that makes this festival special.

"It's a very chilled out atmosphere and musicians start jamming with each other after the scheduled performances.

There have been times when artists have jammed for five hours at a stretch. The experience is simply magical," says Anand.

On: July 23 to 25 (reserve your room by July 10).
