Truth prevails: Dolly and Anil Halder cheer after the verdict on Thursday

Anil Halder
and his wife Dolly finally breathed a sigh of relief. After a two-year-long wait for justice, a Ghaziabad sessions court on Thursday pronounced both Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli
guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter Rimpa at Moninder Singh Pandher's Nithari bungalow in Noida.

"My daughter's soul can rest in peace now. Our two-year-long struggle has yielded results today," said 43-year-old Anil Halder.

Rimpa was among the 19 children raped and killed by Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli at Nithari in 2007.

Dolly Halder, who broke down as soon as the judge pronounced the two men guilty, said, "Every time I saw them (Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli) in the courtroom I became uncontrollable. They murdered my daughter. Though I will never get her back but I am happy that other girls will not face the same fate if these two are hanged."

Apart from their personal grief, the Halder family had to also fight shoddy inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that tried to save Moninder Singh Pandher.

"The CBI officials did all they could to save Moninder Singh Pandher. But thanks to the court and our hard work, these men are booked now. This case falls in the rarest of the rare category so we are hoping for the harshest punishment for them," said Khalid Khan, the lawyer representing Bandana Sarkar, the mother of another victim Pinki. The sessions court is hearing Pinki's case simultaneously. Bandana also lost her husband Jatin, who she alleges was killed by the CBI to save Moninder Singh Pandher.

As the day passed in receiving congratulatory messages from well-wishers, the Halder family regretted not going to a temple to thank the Almighty. "I hope we will be able to thank Him tomorrow morning before the punishment for the two is announced. I want them to be hanged but it's clear that the least they will get is life term for the murders they have committed," said Anil Halder.
