India's star tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi feels the suspension slapped on the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a blessing in disguise and it is high time to clear the mess in Indian sports.
“It is a culmination of dirty politics,” Bhupathi was quoted as saying by ESPNStar.com.u00a0“I am not sure when this has happened last to any country. Not being able to represent India for sportspersons at any international meet is punishing and for absolutely no fault of theirs," he said.
Asked if the ban is blessing in disguise for Indian sports, Bhupahi said: “As long as someone in a position to make a difference takes the lead and starts cleaning up the mess one by one.”
Bhupathi feels Indian sports should be run by a group of “sportspersons and business-savvy folks.”u00a0"I have always said it needs to be a mix of sportspersons and business-savvy folks. Once this is done, I am sure we will change the culture in India,” he said.
