Ronak Tiwari's brace powered Don Bosco International School (Matunga) into the semi-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised Fr Donnelly boys' U-14 knockout tournament with 3-2 win over St Aloysius High School (Bandra) at St Stanislaus ground, Bandra yesterday. Apart from Ronak's brace (21st and 26th minute), Liam Pinheiro (29th) netted the third goal for the Matunga side while Shoaib Khan (14th) and Arjun Singh (33rd) scored for the Bandra outfit.
After both teams struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities early on, the Bandra outfit striker Shoaib broke the deadlock when he netted a pass from Adarsh Singh. The defender Adarsh was in thick of the action again when he successfully cleared two successive short corners of the opponent team as the Bandra outfit went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.
Aggresive Don Bosco
Switching sides, the Matunga outfit started aggressively. A minute into the second half, Ronak equalised for the Matunga side. Five minutes later, the striker made it 2-1 for Don Bosco when he beat goalkeeper Ayaan Shaikh. Liam scored the third goal for the Matunga team. Arjun reduced the margin for the Bandra team in the 33rd minute, but it was not enough as the Matunga side held on to the lead to win 3-2.
St Dominic Savio win
In another quarter-final match, St Dominic Savio (Andheri) beat Dr Antonio Da Silva (Dadar) 2-0. Duane D'Souza (28th) and Aryan Samant (32nd) scored a goal each for the winning team.
