While Paes has teamed up with Czech Lukas Dlouhy, Bhupathi has combined with Bahamas' Mark Knowles in the 2,750,000 euro Clay-court event.
Paes and Dlouhy, seeded third, will take on the winners of the match between Czechs Tomas Berdych and Frantisek Cermak and Spaniards Albert Montanes and Tommy Robredo.
Fourth seeds Bhupathi and Knowles, meanwhile, will be up against the winners of the match between the Spanish team of Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez and the Russian combine of mercurial Marat Safin and Igor Andreev.
