Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman and Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist has expressed shock at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to scrap Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab from the fourth season of IPL.

"It was very shocking to hear that these two teams will not be part of IPL anymore," Gilchrist said at a press conference organised by an Australian university. "I don't know the exact reason, but I hope that there is some scope for discussion between BCCI and the teams so that they can return to the competition," the 38-year old said.

"It is a big shame for such a big tournament. It should have been well managed. I pity the owners and fans of both sides," Gilchrist added.
