Supreme Court-appointed committee to release fresh contracts for men and women cricketers after receiving no response from BCCI's finance unit

CoA to hand Indian men, women cricketers new contracts after BCCI no show

The reason the BCCI wants to expedite the new contracts is because the centrally-contracted players will be without an insurance to cover the injury risk factor during the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). For the first time, the CoA and the BCCI management have formulated four grades for centrally-contracted players.

Details of contracts
mid-day was the first to report on the A-plus, A, B and C contracts in its January 4 edition this year. The A-plus category will have players who are consistent or regulars in the Indian team across the three formats. The CoA has entrusted the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad to categorise the players in A-plus, A, B and C grades. The ICC rankings and performances based on the kind of opposition will be certain parameters that will help in gauging the player's contract category. Under the new guidelines, a player does not become an automatic choice to earn a central contract if he gets selected to play for India. It is learnt that the Indian team management has conveyed to the BCCI and CoA not to count the T20 International as a means to get a central contract. The new contracts will also see a substantial hike for men's, women's and domestic cricketers. The percentage of hike, however, could not be ascertained.

Dravid's proposal cleared
Meanwhile, the CoA accepted Rahul Dravid's suggestion to have equal rewards for the support staff members of the winning U-19 World Cup team. It is also learnt that the CoA did not file the seventh status report to the SC where they were likely to call for the removal of the current three office-bearers of the BCCI after completing their term.
