Arya Vidya Mandir (Bandra Kurla Complex) may have earned a place in the U-12 Div II play-offs by way of good fortune, but they are keen to make it count.
After playing two matches where they lost one and drew the other, their chances of qualifying seemed slim.
But to their surprise, they made it to the play-offs as three of the six teams in their pool withdrew from tournament.
Yesterday, the AVM lads emerged comfortable 4-0 victors over St Mary's (ICSE) in their U-12 Div II pre-quarter-final of the Nike-MSSA inter-school football tournament at the Azad Maidan. Coach Ravi Gaikwad was obviously ecstatic given the fact that his boys so nearly missed the bus.
"We got a call from MSSA saying we were selected for the play-offs. I immediatelyu00a0 informed the boys and told them this was their best chance to make it count. I'm glad they delivered," said Gaikwad.
Skipper Arya Thorat, Devarata Sawant, Kamaruksh Kunder and Aditya Gandhi scored for AVM.
