Defending champions India made an unimpressive start to their SAFF Championships when Afghanistan held India 1-1 at the Nehru Stadium, on Saturday.
"Its just been sometime that he is been with the team, and it's unfair to judge him so early. I feel that Savio should be given a longer contract if the AIFF want better results.
"Once a coach is appointed he should be given atleast a year or two to work with the team. And you cant keep changing coaches unless they have had a really, really bad series," Bhutia said during the sidelines of an inter-school event.
India play Bhutan in their second group game today.
