Former India skipper Baichung Bhutia has come out in support of national coach Savio Medeira, who has been under scrutiny after India's poor start to the South Asian Football Federation Cup (SAFF).

Defending champions India made an unimpressive start to their SAFF Championships when Afghanistan held India 1-1 at the Nehru Stadium, on Saturday.

"Its just been sometime that he is been with the team, and it's unfair to judge him so early. I feel that Savio should be given a longer contract if the AIFF want better results.

"Once a coach is appointed he should be given atleast a year or two to work with the team. And you cant keep changing coaches unless they have had a really, really bad series," Bhutia said during the sidelines of an inter-school event.

India play Bhutan in their second group game today.
