Fifteen thousand nurses are on strike in New York City for a second day, marking one of the largest nursing walkouts in the city’s history. The strike began after contract negotiations collapsed, with nurses demanding safer staffing levels, better pay, protection from workplace violence, and the preservation of healthcare benefits and pensions. Hospital management has rejected the demands, calling them financially unsustainable, while bringing in temporary and travel nurses to keep services running.

The United States has revoked over 100,000 visas in 2025, marking one of the largest visa crackdowns in recent years. According to the State Department, the cancellations include 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialised work visas, many linked to criminal cases or visa violations.
