Assam CM Himanta Biswa attacks Cong after Rahul Gandhi's Sewa at Golden temple

 Amid the ongoing tension in the country over ‘Khalistan’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to Golden Temple in Amritsar on Oct 02. The Congress leader paid obeisance at the temple and also offered ‘Sewa’ at the Golden Temple. Meanwhile, this brought a chance for the BJP leaders to pinch Congress over the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma invoked ‘Operation Blue Star’ to mock Rahul Gandhi’s service as the auspicious temple. Talking to ‘X’, CM Himanta said, “Grandmother sprayed bullets and Grand child is doing sewa” Launching a scathing attack on Assam CM, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely called it ‘Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi’. On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army, under ‘Operation Blue Star’ stormed into the Golden Temple on orders of then PM Indira Gandhi. The order was issued to contain Sikh militancy under the leadership of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. The Operation was heavily criticized and led to her assassination by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her New Delhi residence on October 31, 1984.

Pro-Khalistan slogans raised inside Golden Temple

The 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star was observed at the Golden Temple, Amritsar on June 6. Several people were seen wearing black turbans to mark the anniversary. Security across Amritsar was tightened in view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Notably, Operation Blue Star was carried out by the Indian Army in June 1984. Its aim was to capture Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his supporters hiding in the Golden Temple. On the operation’s 39th anniversary, police forces in civil clothes were deployed inside the Sikh shrine’s premises. Pro-Khalistan slogans were openly raised by people inside the Gurudwara’s premises. People were also carrying Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s posters. DCP (Law & Order) Amritsar said that the deployment was made to avoid any untoward situation. Guru Granth Sahib damaged during Operation Blue Star was taken out for public display.

Punjab: Another blast near Amritsar's Golden Temple, previous explosion on May 6

One person was injured after a bomb explosion reportedly occurred near the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Monday, 8 May. The blast took place on the Heritage Street, located outside the Golden Temple.  Mehtab Singh, ADCP of Amritsar,  while addressing the press, said. This is the second crude bomb blast in the vicinity of the Golden Temple in nearly 30 hours. The incident happened at around 6.30 am. The first blast took place near the Bansal sweet shop on Saturday night. The second blast occurred near the same spot but on the opposite side. The police have cordoned off the area and began an investigation.
