Amid the ongoing protests in West Bengal over the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, another case involving the alleged molestation of a minor girl in North 24 Parganas’s Madhyamgram has come has come to light. The minor girl's father said, "My daughter was going to the shop from home...He (accused) took my daughter to the shop and molested her. We did not see this, the person next to us told us that this was done to my daughter...When I asked my daughter about this, she said that this was done to her by beating and scaring her. I called the Panchayat member and he told us that the accused would be punished but he went to the accused's house and started supporting him...An FIR has been registered. The accused was caught at 4 am, he is in custody. We want the person who did this to my 9-year-old daughter to get the harshest punishment."

On 31st August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three new Vande Bharat trains. These trains will improve connectivity across various cities of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said, "Today, from the north to the south, another chapter is being added to the country's journey of development. The expansion of Vande Bharat trains reflects our nation's progress towards the goal of a developed India with modernity and speed. These trains have provided connectivity to important religious places in the country. The Temple City of Madurai is now directly connected to the IT City of Bengaluru via Vande Bharat. This train will also prove beneficial for pilgrims," reported ANI.
