The City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 (Rs 24,500) fine and/or up to six months in jail for smelly public transit passengers.

The City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 (Rs 24,500) fine and/or up to six months in jail for smelly public transit passengers.

It would make it illegal to have "odours that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system."

It doesn't matter if it is body odour or offensive fumes that emanate from clothes, personal belongings or animals.

The Bill will be heard today.
