Aus rebukes fraud student agents

After the recent attacks on Indian students in Australia, the country is in damage-control mode to keep up its image as an education destination with high standards.

Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Evans, has announced that Australia will strengthen student visa checks to stamp out fraud agents, and ensure students have the financial capacity to live and study in the country.

Last week, the Australian government suspended about 200 agents from lodging online student visa applications because of evidence of fraud or poor approval rates.

Foreign students generate the third largest export revenue for Australia and Indian students are the second largest group after Chinese students. www.studyinaustralia.gov.au
