Islamabad: At least 27 persons were killed and over 65 others injured on Monday when two buses collided in Pakistan's Punjab province, police said.

The accident took place in Rahim Yar Khan district's Khanpur area, The News International reported.

The police said one of the buses was on its way from Karachi to Bahawalpur and the other was heading to Sadiqabad from Faisalabad.

According to Rahim Yar Khan police spokesperson Arshad Nawaz, the accident was so serious that the bodies of the dead and injured could only be recovered after cutting through the bodies of the vehicles, Dawn online reported.
