Beyt Dwarka, an island near Okha port, holds cultural and religious importance, housing the revered Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna. The bridge will facilitate easier access for pilgrims and visitors to this sacred site.

Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, said that the bridge is a crucial part of Gujarat`s growth trajectory. The project will boost tourism, trade, and overall socio-economic development in the region.

The bridge`s construction was initiated by the Union Government in 2017 with a budget of Rs 978 crore.

The `Sudarshan Setu` features a unique design, incorporating elements from the Bhagavad Gita and depictions of Lord Krishna. Its aesthetic appeal coupled with functional efficiency makes it a landmark infrastructure project in the country.

Prior to the bridge`s construction, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach the Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt Dwarka. 

Solar panels have been installed on the upper portions of the bridge`s footpath to further enhance its utility by generating renewable energy.
