Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said that Farooq, who was in Bangalore a day before the blast, was instrumental in planting the bombs and soon left the city after the blast. The group dispersed in different directions, while T Nazeer went toward West Bengal, Farooq headed towards Rajasthan and took Shelter in Ajmer.
After his arrest, Nazeer revealed the names of his associates, following which the CCB with the help of their Kerala counterparts kept a tab on Farooq. After hiding for a year, Farooq had started communicating with his family and friends. The police who were tapping his phones, managed to zero in on Farooq and Ibrahim Moulavi in Kerala, and managed to flush him out from their hideouts.
According to officials, Farooq chose to hide in Ajmer because the area was thickly populated with lots of immigrants. Officials are also investigating whether Farooq had any local links and was planning to cross the border.
While Farooq was charged with supplying explosives, Moulavi was charged with conspiracy. According to officials, Nazeer and his associates managed to establish contacts with the LeT network. As evidence, some of Nazeer's associates were gunned down by the J&K police while they were trying to cross border to get into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir for arms training.
