Three people were burnt to death in a fire that struck a building at Grant Road in the wee hours of Monday.

According to the police, a professor with Kirti College, Santosh Joshi, his wife Bharti Joshi and their son Rishikesh Joshi perished in the fire. The Joshis residing on the third floor of Sharda building, got trapped and couldn't escape from the flames. A short circuit is likely to have caused the fire, the cops added.

Sharda Building is a three-storeyed chawl like structure, located in a narrow lane where buildings are in close proximity to one another.

The fire department doused the fire in the morning.
