DJ Zubair does not remember a time when he wasn't surrounded by music. At the center of it all were his growing up years in Pune. He remembers studying at Dastur and dancing with a professional troupe. "The same one Bollywood choreographer Ahmed Khan went to," he says. Incidentally the two went to the same school.
But past follies aside, what is really keeping him busy these days is his project with Pakistani heartthrob, Atif Aslam. "We have travelled to many cities with Desert Fusion (the project with Aslam) including Dubai and Doha and will soon be travelling to Bahrain with the same," he says. Zubair has performed with homegrown dance floor kings as well including biggies like Sukhbir, Gypsy Kings and Medieval Pundits.
He has had some very memorable experiences while playing in Boudoir club, one of the most elite nightspots in Dubai. "Celebs like Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, Ronaldihno and many others come there," he says. In fact he couldn't quite believe his eyes when he saw the stars on the dancefloor. "It was like dream come true to see these people that you only see on TV or movies. To see them live was a different experience altogether," he recalls. He remembers another instance when he was knew that the Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole and Tottenham star Peter Crouch were in the club. "But it was a different experience coming face to face with them," he says. Who else has he bumped into? To take things literally, "Paris Hilton," he laughs. "I bumped into Paris Hilton accidentally and realised it only when found myself surrounded by a lot of heavy duty security men," laughs Zubair.
But celebrities aren't the inspiration for this DJ who's won War of the DJ for three consecutive years. "Music is everything to me. I play most genres ufffd House, R&B and Bollywood too." He doesn't have any favourite singer but looks up to renowned DJs like Armin and Edward Maya. "I believe in funky, House music," he says about his style.
He's excited about facing the Pune audience after a year. "I'm sure they've changed. I had a great time the last time I played, so I'm really looking forward to my performance on Saturday," he signs off.
