A few medical shopowners in Bangalore have taken it upon themselves to educate people about fake currency notes in circulation.They are displaying the serial numbers of fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500. The printed form is being voluntarily circulated among medical stores in certain areas to create awareness on counterfeit notes, say shopkeepers. It displays 13 series of numbers for Rs-500 notes and five for the Rs-1000 notes.This is to create awareness among the people, said Suresh S, a shopkeeper in Vijaynagar, who did not want his shop named.On trackWe have got this list of fake currency series from agencies that supply us medicine, said another shopkeeper on condition of anonymity. We have been advised to trace those giving us these currency notes.While at it, they are also trying to educate the innocent and the ignorant. At least 15 to 20 people visiting my shop take down these numbers every day, said Suresh. People visiting these stores say the initiative is helping them enormously.Besides continuous updates from the state and central governments and banks, such initiatives by medical store-owners are extremely helpful since we can't make out the difference between fake and genuine notes. With the numbers on display, we are now cautious, said S Kumar, a local resident.
