Shorter vacations, due to the outbreak of swine flu in the city, have hit travel business quite hard

Urmila Jamadagni of Skyline Tours and Travel puts the number of cancellationsu00a0 of bookings made by Puneites to popular international holiday destinations between 50 and 70 per cent. "Since the Diwali vacations have been cut short, we are getting enquiries mostly for local places like Konkan or some hill stations," said Jamadagni. She added thatu00a0 there's hardly anyone who wants to go for an international holiday.
Swine flu break
While Yogendra Kaushik, proprietor of Travel Home Tours and Travels, said, "The 15-day forced break because of swine flu saw a lot of families returning to their home town. So, there are very few people who want to take a holiday this year."
Manju Bhosle, principal, Hutchings High School in Camp, confirmed that Diwali vacations are shorter this year. "Every year, we give at least a 10-day holiday for Diwali but this year, we have cut that down to just five days. We will conduct our half-yearly exams during those days," she said.
Picnics cancelled
C S Gopalkrishnan of Holiday Pack, said, "Five schools in the city have cancelled their picnics and annual trips, which is a big loss for us. Besides these, there are several other schools who have put their plans on hold."
