The Rajkumars' home is being demolished to make way for a spacious building for the growing family
The late Rajkumar's growing joint family will be moving into a bigger house in a couple of months. Till then, they will live in a rented house at Ganganagar.
Their present bungalow in Sadashivanagar, built on a 40X60 plot, housed at least 40 people. Butu00a0 Parvathamma Rajkumar, wife of the thespian, is now planning a more spacious, four-storeyed building for the growing family.u00a0
According to family sources, the old structure will be demolished and construction of the new building will start after Vijayadashami in October.
"Rajkumar believed in the concept of the joint family," said Parvathamma. "We were more than 50 when we were in Chennai and the same is continuing here. But we need more space now."
Meanwhile, the family is moving temporarily to a seven-room house in Ganganagar. The house is said to be owned by a relative ofu00a0 well-known road builder Ashok Kheni's and is being rented out to the Rajkumars at Rs 1.5 lakh per month.u00a0u00a0

While eldest son Shiva Rajkumar lives in a farmhouse on Outer Ring Road, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Puneet Rajkumar continue to live with their mother at the Sadashivanagar house.
The children of Rajkumar's daughters Lakshmi and Purnima are visit their grandmother regularly.

Meanwhile, Vaastu experts see the renovation as an opportunity to correct the building's defects. K Gangadhar, a well-known vaastu consultant, said, "The house has a vacant place towards the south-west that causes negative vibes while the cellar adds to theu00a0negative energy. Theseu00a0 defects can now be easily rectified."
Blast from the past
AVM's Mayappa Chettiar originally owned the Sadashivnagar house where Dr Rajkumar lived with his family. AVM is the famous banner that produced Rajkumar's first film Bedara Kannappa in 1952. Chettiar was a producer along with Gubbi Veeranna. Chettiar, who was based in Chennai, used the bungalow as a guesthouse. When Rajkumar decided to move to Bangalore from Chennai, he approached Chettiar and requested him to sell the house, saying he would be blessed to live there.u00a0 It was the early seventies and the building was worth Rs 25 lakh. Chettiar, however, agreed to sell it for Rs 10 lakh. Though Rajkumar bought the house in the early seventies, he shifted the family there only after 10 years.
