Stringent crime act against Ghaywal gang

The plan is to rein in gangwars in the city. And for that the police intend to apply the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Notorious gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, who was arrested on Tuesday, and members of his gang will face the MCOCA. Besides members of the rival Ganesh Marne gang will also face the stringent law.

The police came under pressure after the Bombay High Court rapped them for lack of investigative skills.

Proposal put up
"MCOCA will be applied against Ghaywal and his gang," said ACP (Crime) Anant Shinde. "We have forwarded a proposal to charge the recently arrested six members of the Ganesh Marne gang."

Police sources said that if the MCOCA proposals go as per plan, it would help temporarily curb activities of the two factions.

"Notorious gangsters like Gajanan Marne, Ganesh Marne, Balu Waghire are already behind bars. Now, the second-liners who were creating a nuisance in the city have been nabbed," said sources.
