PMC cleans up its act

Spurred by MiD DAY report, civic body promptly decongests drains and clears garbage left on footpath

The Pune Municipal Corportion (PMC) has finally got its act together. Stung by MiD DAY reports that highlighted the haphazard handling of pre-monsoon work on Fergusson College and Junglee Maharaj roads, the civic body spared no time and effort to set right the neglect.u00a0



The PMC quickly cleaned up the choked drainages and unclean gutters on both the roads. The congested drains and garbage had been pointed out to the PMC engineers last Thursday. On Friday, MiD DAY published how drainages along the FC and JM Road were choked with garabage and dry leaves. It had also highlighted the fact that the dredged out garbage had been left on the footpath of the JM Road.u00a0



VN Indrakshe and Prithviraj Naik, engineers from the Ghole Road ward office, had promised to carry out corrective works by Monday and did not default on their promise. When the spots were visited again, the requisite work was thoroughly done.



The garbage left on the JM road footpath was also removed. "We have also cleaned the interconnecting pipes that pass through the drainages. So floodwater will now recede quickly, as both the underground drainages and pipes have been de-congested.

Most of the pre-monsoon work on FC road is done and only a few spots remain." Apart from the gutters highlighted in the MiD DAY report, others on the FC Road and JM road were also cleaned.
