PMC asks Osho international resort to screen visitors for swine flu

While the Osho International Meditation Resort in Pune ensures that all guests, including the thousands of foreigners who visit every year, undergo an HIV test, foreigners are not being screened for swine flu.

There have been 74 confirmed cases of swine flu in the city so far. To remedy the situation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has written to the Osho International Meditation Resort, asking them to screen visitors from foreign countries, who routinely venture out of the resort and mingle with the general population.

Dhananjay Chandakar, deputy health officer, PMC, said, "We wrote to the Osho International Meditation Resort and asked them to put a mechanism for screening people who might be carrying the swine flu virus."

Dr Dilip Sarda, president, Indian Medical Association of Pune, feels that the large number of foreigners that the Osho Resort attracts calls for the installation of thermal scanners at the entrance. "The scanners will easily detect if a guest has fever or other symptoms of flu, and undertake further tests to confirm whether it is ordinary flu or swine flu," Sarda said.

Ma Sadhana, the spokesperson of the Osho International Resort, said, "If we receive any directive from the PMC, we will take appropriate steps. As of now, I am not sure whether we have received any communication from them."
