Mount Kailash comes to Pune

Kailash Parbat, a popular veg restaurant chain in Mumbai, opens doors in Pune's MG Road. The Guide dropped in andu00a0found the food worth waitingu00a0in line foru00a0

After a pleasant Sunday evening spent shopping on MG Road, we were delighted to find a new restaurant had sprung up along the same stretch. We dropped in at Kailash Parbat on impulse only to face serpentine queues by hungry foodies. A talk with the attendant revealed that we were in for a wait. Would a vegetarian restaurant be worth the wait? As it turns out, we needn't have worried.

Kailash Parbat may serve only vegetarian fare but that doesn't let them stop from dishing out variety. Chaats, parathas, curries, sandwiches, pizza, pulao, Chineseu00a0 preparations and an array of sweets are in the menu. The restaurant has two sections -- AC and non AC. With a no-frills environment and a minimal fuss-free d ufffdcor, the food is its real star.

We began our culinary expedition with Pani Puri (Rs 20) and Dahi Puri (Rs 30). The Pani Puri was served with boondi and spicy imli chatni and pudina water. It was so spicy that we had to ask the attendant to add some sweet imli chatni to balance the heat of the chillies. The Dahi Puri was a delicious blend of dahi, imli and pudina chatni. Stuffed with potatoes and potato bhujia it was neither too spicy nor sweet. Next up, Pau Bhaji (Rs 60)), one of the most popular dish in the joint. The pau was perfectly fried in butter, while the not-too-spicy bhaji too boasted of a butter tarka. The Cheese Paratha (Rs 50) that we ordered for next was loaded with cheese but was a tad bland for our taste. The Hakka Noodles (Rs 60) which we asked for, wasn't drowned in oil or sauces (unlike in a lot places) and came with fresh vegetables.

One word of advice though. Be ready for tardy service if you drop in a on a busy day.u00a0 We had to wait for almost 15 minutes at the chaat counter for a glass of water in spite of repeatedly asking the
attendants.u00a0
