The completely re-designed website, www.delhimetrorail.com, boasting of special interactive features and a special section to cater to visitors to the Commonwealth Games, was unveiled on Tuesday. A Delhi Metro official said that the redesign of the website was carried out by the DMRC after thorough research and study of the websites of other international metro systems like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo.

"The redesigning of Delhi Metro's website was essential as the expanding network and the growing popularity of the metro has made more people log in the website and they search for information like metro routes, fares, timings and facilities," the official said.

The website will also have a ticker which will display important announcements and notices regarding metro for the convenience of the passengers.
Apart from this, separate sections on the Metro Citizens Forum volunteers' programme, the Metro Museum, the Right to Information Act (RTI) and a photo gallery are also available.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E Sreedharan launched the website along with a special booklet 'A Capital Ride to the Games' in English and Hindi which has all important information about the Games and details of stadiums, its Metro connectivity, heritage sites, shopping hubs, Metro Museum, Railway Stations, Restaurants and Hotels.

"The DMRC felt the need to revamp the website keeping in view its expanding network and the growing popularity of the website among the commuters who view it in search of information like Metro routes, fares, timings and facilities," DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

The special booklet, which will be available free of cost to everyone at Metro stations, major hotels, restaurants and other places of importance, has a Metro network map and details of heritage sites, cultural centres and other tourist attractions in the national capital.

The booklet has details about the Games venue and how it is being connected with the Delhi Metro. The Metro will provide connectivity to 10 of the 11 stadias in the national capital. It also has details about general information on the national capital like foreign exchange points in Delhi and numbers of Radio Taxi services.
On the website, the route map is also available in an easily download format for the commuters.

Apart from this, all major information is available on the home page itself in the form of drop down menus which wissssll help the commuter in finding the desired information easily without having to surf much, Dayal said.
"The website will also have a lost and found section and an interactive feedback section...The new look of the site is very contemporary and attractive and has been designed to make it more user friendly with all the relevant information upfront with easily accessibility," he said.

The new website has been based on Content Management System (CMS) which will ensure quick updation of the site. It has been designed and developed by Netcomm Labs Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with DMRC.

CROWDS GALORE
Don't expect an early relief from the jostling and pushing in the overcrowded Metro trains.
"It is a very natural thing. Metro trains are very heavily crowded. We will increase the number of coaches, but don't expect much relief," he said during a re-launch of Delhi Metro website.
Delhi Metro will have 133 broad gauge and 45 standard gauge trains before the start of the Commonwealth Games. Three new trains procured from Bombardier will be commissioned in the next seven to 10 days and six-coach trains will be introduced from November-end.
"More and more people opt for Metro every day and this results in over-crowding of trains especially during morning and evening peak hours," said, Sreedharan. Delhi Metro now carries 14 lakh people everyday and will ferry over 20 lakh people by next month when two more lines, Central Secretariat- Badarpur and CP -Airport Line are commissioned.
