Following the remarks, Leone had approached the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the Mumbai police and registered a complaint against him. After taking down her statement, the Versova police filed an FIR against Khan under sections 501 (printing matter known to be defamatory) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) under the IPC.
