Launched by 5 people, FUEL helps students with admission proceduresu00a0
It all started in 2006 when a promising engineers' application form was rejected by a reputable college in the city because of a technical error. However, that did not deter Ketan Deshpande who went ahead and founded FUEL which stands for Friends Union for Energising Lives. FUEL is an NGO that helps students who have difficulties in academic or professional life. It has benefited more than hundred of other students whose forms were rejected for some reason or the other.
The NGO has five core members ufffd Sagar Laddha (Director of Programme), Rahul Badmuttha (Director of Operations), Rashmi Laddha (Program Manager for R & D), Akhil Talekar (Program Coordinator) and Ketan Deshpande.
"I felt there are so many who don't know the procedures involved during admissions and have to suffer the consequences by wasting a year," said Ketan.
The NGO has now expanded to Karnataka. So far, FUEL has reached out to nearly a lakh students.
FUEL even helps them out with the admission processes. They also conduct workshops and seminars to prepare students for competitive exams such as CAT, AIEEE, CET and AIIMS and also inform them about career options after passing standard XII exams.
"The organisation has tied up with 110 institutes in Maharashtra and around 20 in Karnataka for conducting workshops and seminars through sample application forms and entrance examinations. FUEL has recently launched another programme called MP Connect, where with the help of the member of parliament of local areas, the organisation contacts the various educational institutions to reach out to as many students as possible," said Badmuttha.
The NGO has started catering to students from Class VII onwards recently and also launched its helpline. Students can call at 9271213241/42 anytime and get a solution to their problems.u00a0
