The people behind the initiative Green on Call want Bangalore to justify its Garden City tag.

"It is an attempt to reclaim Bangalore's green city status," said S Pankaj Kumar, an entrepreneur and member of the team. "We have several initiatives to increase the city's green cover."

The team offers landscaping, gardening and saplings for free to anyone who is interested on weekends.

"We visit places based on the calls to our help line number," explained Pankaj. "We study the site before recommending the landscape.

All we need is approval from owners of the site." Among other sites, the team has landscaped the central police station at Chamrajpet.

The team comprising students, working professionals and businessmen also conducts green lessons to make citizens in general and the students in particular aware of the need for increasing the city's green cover.

"This is a unique attempt that adds to several ongoing green initiatives in city," said S Vishwanath, general secretary, Outer Ring Road Companies Association, a body that also supports green initiatives in the city.
