Baripada: The forest personnel on Tuesday recovered the decomposed carcass of a female elephant from near a water channel inside Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district.

The decomposed body was found near Sijra nullha under Dukura forest range. The female elephant was about nine year old, assistant
conservator of forest (ACF) Arun Kumar Patra said.

Rejecting the possibility of poaching of the jumbo, Patra said the elephant might have fallen into the nullha while coming to drink water.

The postmortem would reveal the exact cause of its death, Patra said.
