For that matter even those who violate traffic rules virtually every day will need to check their law breaking tendencies.Representative picThe district police are in the process of compiling the data related to the vehicles in Noida and the neighbouring areas like Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad in the digitised format. This, the cops say, will help them track the offenders and speed investigation process.Till now Noida police used to keep details of only those vehicles that were registered with the Regional Transport Offices in Noida and Ghaziabad. But looking at the series of crimes in the district involving vehicles from the neighbouring areas, the police have started preparing a comprehensive databank of vehicles registered in Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad and some other neighbouring places. Once the data is complied, it will be sent to the police headquarters at Lucknow from where it would be uploaded on a server. Also, the data will be kept at the police control room, which the officials claim will be of great help during investigations. In most cases, vehicles used during the crime in the district belong to the neighbouring areas. It took us months to get the information from these places, which gave culprits enough time to escape, said a senior police official of Noida police.Tracking on the roadu00a0The entire process is underway and we hope to complete everything in next couple of days. For this we are taking help of neighbouring police as well as RTOs. Once the databank is prepared, we will ensure that it is updated every week and sent to Lucknow. A list of vehicles suspected to be stolen or associated with any crime will also be provided to the traffic police in the district to help them track their movement on streets as the gangs involved in crimes keep shifting their base, said Superintendent of Police (city), Anant Dev.The district authorities, in a similar move last December, had asked colleges for details of students enrolled with them as it was found that many students were involved in the petty offences. According to police, about 75 per cent of petty crimes in Noida and Greater Noida are committed by first-time offenders.Lost, not foundCases of auto theft have risen at an alarming rate in Noida, with the stolen vehicles and fake auto documentation business here estimated to be worth nearly Rs 100 crore annually. About 1000-1500 vehicles are stolen every year, according to police estimates. The vehicles lifted from the area are transported by the gangs to the neighbouring areas and then used for crimes.
