Dikshit says Games work progressing

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit admitted to some concern over completion of some projects for the Commonwealth Games, but maintained that efforts are being made to finish the event-related work on time.

"There is a concern, but we are progressing well," Dikshit told reporters when asked about delay in some of the projects for the Games.

At a meeting to review works of the public works department (PWD), the chief minister asked the agency to complete the Games-related works on time and expedite street-scaping and road signages projects to ensure a better look of the city ahead of the event.

The PWD was also asked to concentrate on completion of flyover on N.H.-24 bypass near Gazipur, the elevated Barapullah Road, corridor improvement of road No.56 and Ring Road bypass, officials said.

The meeting was attended among others by PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and state Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta.

The PWD has also taken up a project of beautification of flyovers which is likely to be completed by Aug 15, Chauhan said, adding that work on 10 flyovers is in progress while it has been completed on the other 14.

He said Delhi will also have modern, attractive and convenient foot overbridges (FOBs) soon.

"The PWD has already completed 31 FOBs, while the work on 26 FOBs is in progress. They have been commissioned to ensure pedestrian safety and overcome accidents on roads," the minister added.

He said PWD has also worked to widen and strengthen the city roads.
