In addition to the ongoing controversy over fee hike at Rosary School, a parent had to be rushed to Sassoon hospital yesterday as she developed medical complications after she was allegedly threatened by other parents against paying fees.
Ayesha Kazi, whose daughter is a std V (ICSE Board) student at Camp's Rosary School, had gone to the school yesterday to pay the fees. Kazi's relatives alleged that a few parents who were at the school to protest against the fee hike threatened her not to pay the fees.
"They were forcing her not to pay the fees and abusing her saying that because of rich people like her, the poor parents were suffering," said Sonal Khinvasare, parent of a std IV student. "She started shivering in fright and was about to collapse. We had to rush her to the hospital as she was complaining of blood pressure problems."
'Nuisance at school'
"These people come here and protest everyday and create nuisance in the school compound," said Ashwin Kamat, representative of Rosary School. "They don't want to pay the fees and have started harassing those parents who want to."
Kazi was discharged from Sassoon after being kept under observation for two hours. "She had high blood pressure and had become very hyperactive," said Dr Sunil Zope, medical officer on duty at Sassoon hospital.
A crowd of parents gathered at Bund Garden police station at the same time as Kazi was being treated. The school authorities had informed the police that a woman was allegedly assaulted on the premises by protesting parents.
"Initially we were told that she was pushed around by the crowd of parents and there was some fight. But she told us that she wasn't hit and there was only a heated argument," said Police Inspector Suhas Nadgouda from Bund Garden police station. "She didn't wish to register a complaint but wanted us to warn other parents not to harass those who come to pay fees."
Ashok Bamboli, representative of parents, said that no parent threatened anyone and it was a false rumour spread by the school management.
