Students of Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, (BVUCOEP) emerged winners at Unmaad '11', a national level cultural fest, organised by Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore, which was organised from January 21 to 23.
The group of students who are on cloud nine said this was the least they could do in return for the faith and support the college had shown.
"We wanted to pay back for the confidence they (college) had on us and we got an opportunity this way," said Ravi Vishnoi, captain of the winning team.
Vishnoi, who is a final year engineering student, said: "I was undergoing 45 days of vocational training in Jabalpur when I got the call and the dates for this fest in IIM - Bangalore. It was compulsory but somehow we managed."
The three-day event included dramatics that showcased the acting skills of students. A team of 40 colleges from all over the nation participated in the fest in which BVUCOEP dominated the event and held first position in Role-Play for the fifth consecutive year.
In addition, it also stood third in both Street-Play as well as Mime.
"A Street-Play is a theatrical form of Nukad Natak which spreads awareness among the public on general social issues and Mime is a voiceless show in which particpants use their body language and facial expressions to deliver a message," said Vishnoi. He also added that Role-Play is the toughest of all three as in this a situation is given and participants had to perform.
"We need to get into the character in Role-Play and Lady Sriram College (LSR) Delhi, was our toughest competitor. We have learnt a lot from them," said Prakhar Singh, a member of the BVUCOEP team.
The winning team won a cash prize of Rs 6,000 besides certificates. "It was celebration time because we had received certificate, prize and honour from IIM - Bangalore. Now, BVUCOEP is a recognised name," said Vishnoi with a smile.
