Ayodhya security central government task: Mayawati

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Thursday said she has written to the prime minister for providing security at the Ayodhya site and, in a veiled warning, added that any breakdown of law and order would be the responsibility of the central government.

Addressing a press conference just after the Allahabad High Court gave its ruling in favour of a temple at Ayodhya, Mayawati said: "I have written to the prime minister (Manmohan Singh) for providing security to the site. It will be the responsibility of the centre in case of another breakdown of law and order."

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court said that the Babri Masjid had been built after demolishing a temple, which stood at the site of the birthplace of Hindu god Ram.
