Auto driver flees after accident

He was coming up a one-way with no headlights and to make matters worse, there were no street lights on in the area, which led to a collision with the car

Acting out the meaning of the term 'hit-and-run,' the driver of an auto rickshaw fled the scene after colliding with a car on a one-way street on Mathikere Main Road in Yeshwantpur last night.

Hkvirupashk (31), the driver of the car attached to Ramesh Tours and Travels, said, "The accident occurred at 11:50 pm and the unidentified rickshaw driver was driving up a one way street with the headlight switched off.

To make matters worse, there were no streetlights on in the area. I believe it was trying to take a U-turn. I tried to brake at the last moment, but it was too late."

The accident left the auto rickshaw badly damaged and oil and parts lay strewn at the spot and the Yeshwantpur police arrived about 30 minutes later to tow away both vehicles involved in the accident.

Sub Inspector of Yeshwantpur traffic police, Ganganna, said, "The driver was clearly in violation of traffic rules as the road happens to be a one way and the driver of the cab did not see him coming, since the auto did not have a headlight."

The Yeshwantpur traffic police confirmed that the driver is absconding and intend to begin a search after they ascertain who the auto rickshaw belongs to.
