If you, like us, love your eggs any way, then you, like us, must be super excited about a joint that specialises in egg preparations. But instead of breakfast on a sunny Sunday, we chose to visit Eggsunday in Oshiwara for an early dinner. The name -- once you get the fact that owner Rohit Saigal means "eggs" and "unday" and not egg-Sunday -- is pretty cool.u00a0





u00a0Eggsunday is done up in bright sunny colours. There's a mezzanine level too and a visible, but crammed, kitchen. One wall is full of sentences and words playing around with their main ingredient. A picture of a grater reads "Cheese grate, eggs greater." Corny, but cute.u00a0

u00a0The menu is a mix of classic items, delicacies, starters, mini meals, health food and salads, all featuring the egg. We called for a portion of Sichuan Egg Drumsticks (Rs 125). It took roughly half an hour and we were starving when the drumsticks arrived. The drumstick filling had finely chopped boiled egg jostling for space with the usual Oriental veggies.

It was suitably crunchy though bland and the egg was more of a sidekick than the main ingredient. The Sichuan dip served alongside makes sure you can't tell any flavour other than spice.u00a0

Next, we call for the classics -- Eggs Benedict (Rs 175) and a Cheesy Baida Roti (125). Thankfully, the wait wasn't too long. My date thought the Hollandaise sauce slapped on top of the chicken and poached egg making up the Eggs Benedict is too tart, but I didn't agree. The light yellow sauce goes well with the strips of salami and egg sitting on round slices of bread, though it makes the dish soggy.

The Cheesy Baida Roti, layered with cheese, onions and eggs, was piping hot. The accompanying pudina chutney was fresh and delicious. But all the same, there were too many spices in the Baida Roti, and the egg was lost.u00a0

A third egg dish seemed unhealthy, so I packed a Chef's Salad (Rs 165) to go. It was a generous portion of fresh greens mixed with slices of hard-boiled eggs and chicken salami bits, set off superbly with a thousand-island dressing. The salad is one dish that truly does justice to the anda.

Eggsunday is a great concept since it's an ingredient that can be played around with a lot. But the dishes don't bring out the star in the egg; it's reduced to a supporting role, except maybe for the salad. Eggsunday's ambience and service are impeccable. We'd soon like to say the same about their menu.
