A long road for Madani

People's Democratic Pary chief and Bangalore serial blast accused Abdul Nasser Madani has a tough task ahead for securing bail. This is because the State Home Department is putting allu00a0 its might against it stating that his release will not only hamper further investigations, butu00a0 is also capable of implementing his subversive ideologies against the interest of the country.

The city police had arrested Madani from his residence-cum-Madrasa at Anwarsheri last August, following which, he filed a bail application in the local court and later moved it to the High Court. Madani pleaded that his arrest was illegal, and was based on the confessions of the other accused. The state had filed detailed objections in this case, which ran into over 200 pages countering his application.

Bad influence
The state went on to say that Madani has links with T Naseer, the prime accused in the serial blasts. Terming their association as lethal, the government stated that it was Madani's speeches that inspired Naseer. "Madani had at times had knowledge of the facts of the case and in addition to this he even sheltered Naseer," it said.

The police say that Madani had a big role to play in the blasts, because he was also an accused in the Coimbatore blasts. Jamal Muhhamad, Madani's brother, also told police that his brother had harbored the rest of the accused.

Cops say that if he is released, then he will use his influence to get out of this case. Lastly the police made mention about Shahina, a journalist, and her acquaintance Shabbir, who had reported in a tabloid about the case. They have been booked and have been charged with tampering with evidence. They said that they had sounded a Red Corner notice against Shabbir. This submission was made before the Karnataka HC, which willtake up the matter tomorrow.
