Move over Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. IPL screenings in multiplexes are moving into the third
dimension.

City multiplexes are joining hands with a private company to screen IPL matches in 3D. The last four IPL T20 cricket matches the two semi-finals, the final and the third place play-off are to be screened at E-square
and Inox.

'In-depth' coverage
Sunil Khaduria, vice-president of Scrabble Entertainments, which enables digital screenings across the country, said, "We are confident the 3D concept will work well with sports lovers. Films and sports are worshipped in this country and we are offering complete entertainment."

The 3D concept has been a huge hit with audiences, with Avatar still running successfully after 120 days in theatres across the country.

Suraj Sharma, manager (operations), E-square, said, "We have thought of seeing the response by screening the matches in single screens first, and if the demand goes up, we will increase the number of shows."

Madhuri Bogawat, regional manager (marketing), Inox, which is in talks with Scrabble Entertainments for the IPL screenings, feels Indian audiences have taken well to the concept of 3-D. "There is a demand for such formats and so we are in talks for the screenings," she said.

Across India
There will be about 75 screenings in 25 to 27 cities, including big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. Khaduria said even smaller cities have the potential for 3D screenings.

"We have screenings in Ludhiana, Gurgaon, Nashik and many other places to give audiences a feel of being there in the thick of all the action," Khaduria said.

In the city, multiplexes are also planning to come up with various special offers to keep the audiences happy.
