Three of family and driver of car dead as vehicle hits railings of Devale Bridge, falls into rivulet

2nd fatal E-way mishap in 24 hrs

The police said the driver might have lost control over vehicle, causing it to ram into the bridge railings. The deceased were identified as Jitendra Katilal Gandhi, Vasant Popatlal Gandhi, Sarojini Vasant Gandhi and driver Devidas Marathe, and the injured as Jaishri Jitendra Gandhi.

The police said all were residents of Shahapur. u00a0The police said Jitendra ran a grocery business while Vasant was in the construction business.“The family left Shahapur in an Indigo car and when they were near Devale village, the driver Marathe lost control over the vehicle, which first hit the iron railings and then fell into the rivulet,” a police official said. “After the incident, the highway patrolling squad, the rural police and local residents rushed to the spot and brought out the bodies from the car.”

Police Inspector Mohan Jadhav of the Lonavala rural police said the car had ended up submerged in the water.u00a0“After reaching the spot, we took out Jaishree from the car as she was screaming for help and rushed her to Lonavla hospital,” Jadhav said. “At the same time, we took out the other people and rushed them to hospital, but in vain.”

On Sunday, four people were killed and seven injured sustained in an accident at 3.15 pm near Baur on the Expressway. The group was on its way to the city from Mumbai in a Tavera, which was rammed from behind by a car.u00a0

2 hrs on, another mishap at Devale
Two hours after the fatal accident on the E-way near Devale, another occurred at the same spot, leaving three injured. An Accent car on its way to the city rammed into an IRB Delta Force patrolling van from behind. The injured were identified as Yusuf Sharifuddin Shaikh, Firoj Kureshi and Ahamad Shaikh.
