After MiD DAY's report about quiz winners being duped by the organisers at the 83rd Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, the winners were handed over their dues within a week.
On March 29, MiD DAY had reported that students of Pune University's Marathi department, who had participated and won one of the pre-event competitions of the Marathi literary meet, had alleged that organisers gave them only half the promised prize money and non-cash gifts.
Hard work
The four-member team of students had won a literary quiz based on works of eight Marathi writers, for which they prepared for more than six weeks.
The students were to receive Rs 10,000 and books worth Rs 10,000, but only half the cash wasu00a0 handed over to them and the books they received were also worth about half their promised worth. The students had also complained that the books were mediocre literature.
When MiD DAY had taken up the subject with the organisers, they had admitted that only half the promised prize was given to the winners. They had also promised that the remainder would be given in a few days.
Dr Manohar Jadhav, head of the Marathi Department, had claimed that organisers had insulted him and his students over the issue.
"This time, the books given were also of good quality and useful to students unlike the last time. And they even told us getting the media involved was unnecessary," said Jadhav.
Haresh Shelke (24), an MPhil student, who was part of the winning team, said that the organisers of literary meet handed over the remaining prize money and gifts on Friday.
