Travel company allegedly not responding to cancellation pleas
AFTER the cloud burst in Leh and Ladakh most of the tourists cancelled their trips to the area. But some like Dr Manjit Singh Kanwar are suffering. Dr Kanwar booked his trip to Ladakh with his friend Ashok Bakhsi. He paid Rs 43,000 to the travel company Make My Trip and booked a 4 nights package in Ladakh, starting from August 22. The trouble started when he heard about the disaster in Ladakh and decided to cancel his trip.

"When I booked the trip I used the phone numbers of Make My Trip and for cancellation I tried to contact them on the same numbers, but there was no response. I called up the numbers about 30-40 times and requested for a cancellation. The request went unanswered even after 2 weeks.
When I tried to contact them again, still nobody responded. After so many calls, an executive with the company told me that the information was forwarded to the concerned department and I will receive the information soon. But yet there is no progress," said Dr Kanwar.
The doctor and his friend were told that the weather is clear in Ladakh so they should not cancel their trip. "An executive told me that the weather was fine and we must carry on with the trip. But from the news broadcast I found that the rescue operations are still on and the roads are yet to be made navigable, so there is no chance of a trip. I repeatedly requested them to cancel my trip but all were in vain.
I know why the company is bluffing us, this being the best season to go to Leh and Ladakh, there are a lot of bookings made on Make My Trip which is the only private company which provides a planned tour to the hill station. The company takes 100 customers a day to Ladakh andu00a0 this way the company is cheating around 3000 customers who are trying to cancel their bookings to the area. These people are making money by not cancelling the trip," Dr Kanwar said.
The company receives all the money in advance and tells the customers that their trip is secured. The charges include hotel rents, travel charges and food charges. "I have paid Rs 37,000 by cheque and Rs 5,000 by my credit card and received my tour confirmation id as INW1007B00222.
If the company cancels my reservations now, then I will get 30 per cent of my money. But if they continually delay and cancel it on the travel day or a day before, more money will be deducted. I am shocked to know that these people can also extract money from a natural disaster," Dr Kanwar added.
