Mumbai’s much awaited water taxi service is all set to begin from January 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate water taxi service from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai in the first week of January, The Indian Express reported

The water taxi will operate between Mumbai and the two Navi Mumbai jetties and will reduce commute time by 75 per cent. This will also include a stop at JNPT.


Another service will operate between Mumbai and Rewas in Raigad district, the report said. 

The fare will be calculated at Rs 45 per minute per passenger. According to reports, the water taxis will operate 330 days a year, between 8 am to 8 pm. The service will be put to halt during the monsoon.

Other routes include International Cruise Terminal to Elephanta, Domestic Cruise Terminal to Rewas, Karanjade, Dharamtar, Domestic Cruise Terminal to Belapur, Nerul, Vashi and Airoli and DCT to Khanderi islands and JNPT.

Central and state agencies liken the Mumbai Port Trust and Maharashtra Maritime Board and CIDCO worked together on the project.
