The 41-year-old is a resident of Naigaon who earlier stayed at Worli. He works as an assistant manager in a shop in Mumbai. “God should not give such friends to anyone. I always helped Waghela and later we became best friends. In 2017 Waghela asked me about my savings, my property and my home. I shared the information with him as a friend but he used it to dupe me,” he said.

Waghela’s ‘advice’

“Later I told Waghela I didn’t have any money left to pay him for the case. He then told me to commit suicide. He said if I ended my life nobody would come to ask for money and the rape and suicide case would end. After Waghela told me this, I attempted suicide twice and tried to jump from a running train but was saved by people,” the harassed complainant Nate said.

He said they were false allegations against him but he feared being arrested as his career and reputation would be spoilt. “I tried to solve the issue and paid Waghela around Rs 96 lakh. I lost my house, my savings, LIC policies and now I am in debt. I took loans from people on high rates of interest and these are pending,” he said.

‘A simple man’

A relative of the complainant said, “He took a loan from me and said it was to pay the loan of his house. I thought he had sufficient money. When I asked him if there was a problem he revealed what had happened. He was spending entire days at railway stations and not going to office or his house for days. He is a simple man and now he is in debt.”
