Days after Mumbai police constable Vilas Shinde succumbed to his wounds after being attacked by a biker, his mother died on Monday of a heart attack in Satara

On Monday, the Shinde family — mother Kalabai, wife Sadhana, daughter Kalyani and Son Divyesh — were performing Vilas’s thirteenth day rites. After the ceremony, however, Kalabai felt uneasy and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

“She died due to heart attack. She was in shock ever since her son died and was not even eating properly. Shinde’s last rites were performed at Shirgoan in Satara,” said Sunil Rane, a Shinde family neighbour in Worli.

Shinde (52), was posted at Khar petrol pump when he was attacked with a wooden plank by two brothers, one of them a juvenile, because he asked for their licence. He succumbed to his injuries on August 31.

A grief-stricken Vitthal lamented, “What have I done that I have to see such a day? First, my son died and now my wife.” A retired policeman himself, Vitthal mourned, “After retirement, one sees good days, but I have to live through all this.”
