A 30-year-old scrap dealer from Sewree, Shahnawaz Chaudhary, was shot at late on Friday night. The assailant fired one round of bullets using a country made pistol.

Chaudhary, a resident of Zakaria Bunder was chatting with a friend on Dargah Lane, when he was attacked. He was immediately admitted to the J J Hospital, where his condition is now stable.

The assailant, identified as Mohsin Alam Abdul Rauf, was caught while trying to escape from the crime scene. Rauf was beaten up and was admitted to the J J Hospital as well. He, ironically, is in a critical condition.

"He is not able to give a statement. The reason behind the firing is not known but we suspect that it was due to a dispute over some plot of land," said an officer investigating the case, who did not wish to be named.
