Order for shootout came from jail: Cops

Two bike-borne men had shot at Shetty outside a mall in Andheri. Shetty was rushed to the hospital and was later discharged. During the course of investigation, the police arrested Nityanand Nayak, a property dealer from Dharavi, and learnt that the attack on Shetty was a result of a dispute over a Slum Rehabilitation project at Dharavi.

“A team headed by police inspector Nandkumar Gopale arrested Selvin Yellapa Daniel, who is a close relative of Satish Kaliya alias Rohit Thangappan Joseph, who was one of the main shooters in the J Dey murder case,” said a police officer from the crime branch.

Both Kaliya and Daniel have been working for the Chhota Rajan gang and were arrested by the crime branch in 2004.

According the investigators, Yellapa, Singh and Talwinder fired at B R Shetty. The cops have learnt that Nayak had helped the shooters identify Shetty. The police are now searching for Gurudeep Singh and Talwinder, and also hunting for the accused, who had arranged for finance for the shootout.u00a0
